However, there should be some points to be reconsidered. We may not be satisfied with the treatment of Mallarme's criticism activities : \"Notes sur le theatre\" (1886-1887), National Observer essays (1892-93) and \"Variations sur un Sujet\" (1895). Marchal seems to calculate the value of those texts in his edition to treat them simply as 'avant-texte' of Divagations (1897). Now, we should try to read Mallarme's critical writings among the others not by the way of confining 'preoriginaux' in a so-called definitive version, but by the genetic way or by the way Roland Barthes would gaze on the proof of Balzac. In doing so, our poet, who faced toward the 'siecle' that he lived, or, in other words, another Mallarme 'tel qu'en lui-meme' would appear from the pages where we pursue 'noir sur blanc'. It is concerned with an important problem how we should treat and what aspect we should consider when we examine the texts of a writer like Mallarme.
