Because of the individualization of the family, individuals could have personal preferences about their caring for elders in their family, and construct a Caring Lifestyle by negotiating among family members while looking after the care-receiver. Nevertheless the validity of this approach can be questioned through investigation of the care of spouses, because most husbands and wives feel primary obligation or duty to care for their dependent partner. The purpose of this article is to examine why lifestylization in caring for spouses does not progress. Through interviews with caregivers, I found two issues about family dynamics in caring for spouses, (1) exclusivity of the marital relations system, and (2) ambivalence in marital relations.
